This weekend, our Brothers volunteered at the New Mexico State Fair Horse Show hosted by Platinum Performance Horses, supporting Mandy’s Farm! We helped keep the Breed Barn organized, set up and took down obstacles for the Hunter Jumper and Trail riding classes, and assisted with scoring during the main event.

Not only did we get to represent Kappa Sigma through service and teamwork, but we also enjoyed everything the New Mexico State Fair had to offer while supporting such an incredible event!

75th Biannual Grand Conclave in Las Vegas, Nevada 📍

Delta-Zeta went all in this year, and left Las Vegas with some serious winnings!

We walked away as a three-time Founders Circle Award winning Chapter, doing so with 118/118 possible points for the second year in a row - cementing Delta-Zeta as the highest performing Chapter of the world’s highest performing Fraternity!

This past year, Delta-Zeta raised more money for charity than any other Greek organization in the country - raising a collective $264,000, securing us the A Greater Cause Champion Award!

Alongside these accolades, we received the Chapter Ritual Proficiency Excellence Award for placing top five for the GMA Cup, 100% Ritual Proficiency, walked away with a fifth FACE Award, a Silver Bowl Academic Excellence Award, the Outstanding Communications Award, Social Media Content Award, Single Community Service Event Award, Single Military Heroes Event Award, the A Greater Cause Excellence Award, Military Heroes Champion Award, and placed #24 in recruitment nationally! In addition, Brothers Jose Garcia, Rein Behlke, and Henry Schuett were 3/25 John W. Ryan Scholars - Kappa Sigma’s highest academic honor.

Our Executive Committee was also distinguished with Outstanding Grand Master for Rein Behlke, Outstanding Grand Procurator for Henry Schuett, Outstanding Grand Master of Ceremonies for Kai Schmidt, and Outstanding Grand Treasurer for Joshua Snook.

Brothers Jacob Potter, KC Nittianandan, Rein Behlke, and Kai Schmidt also had the privilege of representing Delta-Zeta on the Model Initiation Team.

None of this is possible without our alumni leadership, and Delta-Zeta is incredibly proud of our AA Elijah Lopez for winning Alumnus Advisor of the Year! His hard work does not go unnoticed, and his alumni team was additionally distinguished with Outstanding Volunteer Awards for Tony Ruiz, Louis Ortiz, Zackery Palmer, Erik Boldt, Gryphon Sobieski, and Shayne Pobanz!

As Delta-Zeta celebrates its 100th Anniversary, we want to take a journey through time to reflect and appreciate our rich history at the University of New Mexico, and the men who’s zeal and hard work made our Chapter into the jewel of Kappa Sigma it is today.

In 1915, the Alpha Delta Fraternity was one of three independent fraternities on “The Hill”, and its success led the first ever UNM Dean of Students, Kappa Sigma Alumni John Dustin Clark, to petition for Alpha Delta to become a Kappa Sigma Chapter.

On January 24th, 1925, that wish was realized and the Delta-Zeta Chapter was born. For the next 100 years, Kappa Sigma would be an instrumental part of UNM’s campus life, and today it stands as one of Kappa Sigma Fraternity’s most influential Chapters.

Today, we’d like to thank each and every Delta-Zeta whose zeal and unwavering commitment made our Chapter what it is today. Here’s to 100 years, and here’s to 100 more.

Major: Mechanical Engineering
Initiated: Fall 2021, Iota Pledge Class

Jose Garcia is graduating with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, and has served Delta-Zeta as both Grand Master and Grand Procurator. In addition to a challenging major, and unyielding service to his Chapter, Jose is a Presidential Scholar, an active member of the UNM LoboMotorsports FSAE team, a Master of the Ritual, and a two time recipient of the Dr. John W. Ryan Leadership Circle. We can’t thank Jose enough for his undying zeal and continued contributions to Kappa Sigma.

Initiated: Spring 2025, Pi Pledge Class

Isaak Calderon is graduating with a degree in Criminology and has made the most of the Kappa Sigma experience since joining the Order this semester as part of the Pi Pledge Class. Since joining, Isaak has been one of our most active Brothers - sparing no opportunity to hang out with the guys, come out swinging during Rush, and give it his all at every event. This semester, Delta-Zeta awarded eight Brothers with end-of-semester honors, and we’re proud to continue to highlight their achievements!

Brother Jose Garcia has won the Louis James Ortiz Rush Award for the fourth time in a row, continuing to prove his value in and out of recruitment season! Jose’s dedication to Champion Quest can’t be understated and we’re eager to see him continue advising the GMC office as an Assistant Alumnus Advisor post-graduation!

Brother Zachary Matula has received the Ritual Excellence Award for his zealous contributions to Ritual this semester - performing on the Model Initiation Team at the Phi-Theta Installation, earning five certificates of Ritual Proficiency, and continuing his journey to become Delta-Zeta’s next Master of the Ritual!

Brother Dylen Guerrero is this semester’s recipient of the Best Officer Award! Dylen’s performance as Grand Scribe is exemplary, and Delta-Zeta couldn’t ask for a more proficient Officer! Dylen has held the position for nearly two terms, and has established a pattern of hard work and perseverance that has distinguished himself as one of Delta-Zeta’s finest!

Brother Jacob Potter is the first-ever recipient of the Brendan Emmanuel Clark Scholarship Award, named after PGP Brendan Clark who was truly revolutionary in the establishment of Delta-Zeta’s culture of academic excellence! Jacob finished last semester with an outstanding 4.06 GPA, and this award congratulates him for his dedication to not only a business degree, but a computer science degree as well!

Brother Kendall Trellue is this semester’s recipient of the A Greater Cause Award for his volunteer effort in organizing and running the The 2025 ANS Student Conference, an event that brought together nuclear engineers from all over the country, including Delta-Zeta Alumni. This conference alongside Kendall’s continual involvement in community service gave him the most AGC hours this semester!

Joshua serves as our Grand Treasurer and his dedication to not only his position, but the Order as well, has solidified him as one of Delta-Zeta’s absolute best! Thank you for all you do Brother!

Brother Jose Garcia not only is graduating UNM with honors, but is graduating from Delta-Zeta as well, winning a Delta-Zeta Man of Zeal Award! Jose is a Past Grand Master and Past Grand Procurator, and we’re forever thankful for all the time he’s put in over the years!

Brother Kai Schmidt has received the Emerging Leader Award for his tremendous bouts of leadership upon coming into the position of Grand Master of Ceremonies. He has distinguished himself as a stellar leader in our Chapter and we’re eager to see his term as GMC continue!

Brother Karnan Nittianandan has won the Best Chairman Award for his outstanding performance as Brotherhood Chairman, helping redefine the position and using it to cultivate fellowship, increase retention, and strengthen the bonds of our brotherhood!

This past Thursday, Brothers Jose Garcia, Henry Schuett, and Joshua Snook had the honor of attending the University of New Mexico’s prestigious Presidential Scholarship Spring Dinner. These Brothers received a four year scholarship that can pay up to $40,000 towards their undergraduate tuition and fees! They truly live out the pillar of Scholarship that Kappa Sigma teaches. Brother Jose Garcia had the amazing opportunity to be the main speaker at the dinner, giving his account on how the scholarship has shaped his schooling, ambitions, and opportunities.
